Hold up! Before you remove but one little fan from your gorgeous lash set—read this.
We know COVID has thrown some curveballs at your lashes, but this too shall pass. And, if you refrain from lash extension self-removal during COVID, your natural lashes will thank you in the long run.
Here’s the lowdown.
Firstly, you really shouldn’t need to remove your lash extensions if they were correctly applied. They should grow out gradually with the natural lash, without snapping or pulling out any of your natural lashes.
Not happy about that, lash lover?
THREE THINGS YOU CAN DO
Tip 1: During COVID, we recommend you to keep washing your lash extensions daily and brush them as often as you need. Doing so encourages them to grow and shed naturally. Over the weeks, your lash extensions will—on their own—become more and more sparse, until they’re all gone.
So technically, all you need to do is practice some TLLC (tender loving lash care).
Tip 2: Use a lash growth serum (they’re fine to use with lash extensions). A lash serum will speed up the growth of your natural lashes, which means your extensions will likely grow and shed a little faster than usual.
Tip 3: Do not vigorously rub or pull at your lashes; this will only encourage them to snap. For really long and randomly grown out extensions that you’re desperate to remove, try using a product with the ingredient HEXYLENE GLYCOL in it. The main one is Garnier Micellar Water. Apply it with a quick swipe over your remaining lashes a couple of times a day. It’ll help to loosen the adhesive bonds. We know you’re reading tip 3, thanking us for delivering the good news. But we can’t take credit for this one. Instead, You can send your thanks to Corrin at the Eyelash Extension Institute for discovering this nifty tip!
Aside from these three steps, there’s no safe way to completely remove your lash extensions yourself—without damaging the natural lash.
Instead, we urge you to look after them as you normally would; let them grow.
Got gaps you’re unhappy with? Use mascara on your natural lashes to disguise them until we can book you in for your new set.
LASH SELF-REMOVAL IS A HARD NO
Since lockdown, clients have asked if we can sell our lash extension removal products, or create an at-home removal kit?
Unfortunately, we can’t.
Professional lash extension adhesive remover contains very strong chemicals, which work like a solvent to dissolve the lash adhesive – basically turning it back into its liquid form.
Once the lash adhesive softens, the chemicals must be removed manually from your natural lashes. Professional lash artists are trained to do this safely.
YOU MUST HAVE a trained professional to do this for you, and unfortunately due to the current situation, we can’t.
DO NOT skirt your way around this.
Please don’t Google search for lash extension suppliers and purchase your own lash extension glue remover.
It’s NOT SAFE to do it on yourself. The products are not for self-use; they’re created for trained professionals to use on their clients.
If you do try it yourself, the results could be disastrous. You place yourself at high risk of chemical burns, which could cause serious damage to your eyes, eyesight or face—and lastly, you’ll damage your lashes.
Instead, use this time to rest your lashes, and wait until we can pump up the volume again.
Don’t worry, we’ve had words with the Lash Gods, and they know how important sporting luscious lashes is to you. Bear with us.
We’re still here for you online, from a safe social distance.
