With beauty salons being closed for 6-weeks since COVID lockdown, I have no doubt your eyebrows have taken a shape of their own.
Some of you might be embracing the wild-child look and hey if you are, good for you.
For those of you at wits’ end over the state of your brows, I’m here with a solution.
Under normal circumstances—as a brow stylist—I would advise clients not to touch their brows in between regular maintenance appointments. But let’s face it, desperate times call for desperate measures. So out with ‘Pre-ISO Beauty Rules’, and in with ‘ISO Beauty 101’.
Here are some do’s and don’ts for at-home brow maintenance:
THE DON’TS
- Refrain from tweezing the hairs at the top of your brows. Doing so will ruin the overall eyebrow shape. So, hands behind your back. ZERO touching.
- Considering a professional strength brow tint done by, err…you? Or worse, brow henna? Please, please don’t even go there.
- Waxing your own brows is NOT a good idea. You could drop wax onto your eyelashes, accidentally wax half an eyebrow off, rip off delicate skin near your eye area, or burn yourself. Yikes!
- Overusing your tweezers or trimming scissors is brow-kill. Please leave us some brow hairs to work with once ISO lifts.
THE DO’s
Using tweezers, a clean mascara wand (to brush brow hairs), high-quality lighting, a magnifying mirror and a small pair of scissors; you may attempt the following—with absolute caution!
- If you have long brow hairs, brush upward, and ONLY trim the extra-long hairs. You DO NOT need to trim them all. Trim one hair at a time. Trim 2-3mm ABOVE the line your brow artist has created.
- If you have very long brow hair, brush them down. Next, trim the long hairs from the bottom of your brow, again, one at a time. No need to trim them all. DO NOT cut too close to the line of your brows. Remember, you’re only doing a tidy-up—not getting them salon perfect.
- Brush brow hairs back into place, then tweeze any strays with caution. Tweeze only the stray hairs that are 2-3mm below the bottom line of your eyebrow, along with the most central part between your brows (monobrow). Leave the tops of your brows, and the entire tail sections alone.
- If your brows are fair, use pomade, powder or brow pencil to darken them.
If you already hacked into your brows before reading this blog, good news! Applying lash growth serum to the gaps in your eyebrows will promote new and faster brow hair growth.
Stay true to these dos and don’ts, and you’ll make it through iso. And, your brow stylist will thank you for it. Good luck!
